Schiele was best known for his drawings and watercolors of nudes and portraits. He also painted using oils, but they are generally seen as being less successful than his drawings. Egon Schiele was influenced and mentored by his fellow Austrian artist, Gustav Klimt. Similarities can be seen in the work of both artists, but Schiele went on to create his own expressive style that diverged from the work of his mentor. Schiele was briefly imprisoned for exhibiting erotic works that were said to be pornographic. Attention was brought to the artist when he moved to a small town that disapproved of the artist using their teenage daughters as models. He was accused of abduction and the seduction of a young girl below the age of consent, but the charges were dropped. He ended up spending 24 days in prison and did several drawings of his experiences.
